PSV have made an excellent start to the Otten Innovation Cup 2026. English giants Manchester United were beaten 1-0 in the opening match. After the win, we spoke with PSV defender Ersien Bobson.
He was naturally pleased with the win. Bobson: 'The game plan we made before the match worked out well. We competed well in the duels, and everyone – both the starters and the boys who came on – gave it their all.'
Debut
For Bobson, it was his first time at the Otten Innovation Cup: 'It was a great match. A team like Manchester United, from the top of English football, is a nice side to play against. Like us, they also try to play football and don't opt for the long ball too quickly.'
Towards the end of the match, things got a little tricky for the side from Eindhoven. This was partly due to the intense heat, but also because PSV played the final few minutes a man down after a yellow card. Even so, PSV managed to snatch the win.
PSV going for the title
Later today, PSV have another match, against Australian side Adelaide United. Bobson believes PSV will be fresh again at kick-off despite the heat: 'We have the chance to recover by getting into an ice bath. On top of that, we've just eaten, and it's important to drink plenty between matches. We've got the match briefing shortly, and then we'll take a moment together to go over how we're going to approach it.'
