Following yesterday afternoon’s crossover matches, the games for places five through eight kicked off this morning at 10:30 under beautiful weather conditions. It turned into a goal-filled spectacle at PSV Campus De Herdgang, with plenty of attacking football and goals for the spectators to enjoy.
Benfica Secure Fifth Place in Style
On the main pitch, SL Benfica and Manchester United faced off in the match for fifth place. The contest ended in a convincing victory for the Portuguese side. The opening stages of the game produced few opportunities, but once the deadlock was broken, the goals came in quick succession. A series of impressive finishes, some celebrated with spectacular somersaults by the goalscorers, ultimately helped Benfica to a commanding 5-1 win. The result secured fifth place at the 2026 Otten Innovation Cup for SL Benfica, while Manchester United had to settle for sixth.
Club Brugge Complete Impressive Comeback
The match for seventh and eighth place between Adelaide United FC and Club Brugge was a tale of two halves. Adelaide United took control in the opening period and deservedly built a 2-0 lead. Early in the second half, however, Adelaide were reduced to ten men, giving Club Brugge extra encouragement to push forward. The Belgian side seized the opportunity, finding the net three times to complete a remarkable comeback and claim both the victory and seventh place in the tournament.
