PSV is hosting the Otten Innovation Cup again this year. The prestigious youth tournament will take place for the 76th time. From August 14 to 16, eight international O19 teams will compete for the title.

The field of participants for the 76th edition once again consists of eight top teams. In addition to a number of regulars, there are also several newcomers. PSV O19 is competing in the Otten Innovation Cup with: SL Benfica, Manchester United, Club Brugge, Chelsea FC, SE Palmeiras, Adelaide United and defending champion AS Monaco.

This year, too, the Otten Innovation Cup can count on the support of several partners. For example, XXL Nutrition, Red Bull, Pringles and Pipple have committed to the tournament.

Innovation
In addition to top football, the Otten Innovation Cup is also about innovation. As with previous editions, new, game-enhancing rules will be implemented during the tournament:

  • Effective playing time
Games consist of two 20-minute halves with the clock stopped when play is stopped.
  • Yellow cards and time penalties
Not every yellow card automatically results in a time penalty. For certain offenses, a player receives a yellow card, while other offenses are punished with a four-minute time penalty.
  • Dribble-in
When the ball crosses the sideline, it is not thrown in but dribbled in.
  • Selfpass
In free kicks, goal kicks and corner kicks, the taker is allowed to touch the ball again immediately before another player has touched it.
  • Flying substitutions
Teams are allowed unlimited substitutions. Substitutions can take place during the match, with one player being substituted at a time and a minimum of ten seconds between substitutions.

VAR
In addition, it is being investigated whether VAR will be used during the tournament. More information on this will follow at a later date.
