PSV bereikt finale na zege op Chelsea FC

PSV heeft zich geplaatst voor de finale van de Otten Innovation Cup 2026. In een aantrekkelijke kruisfinale versloegen de Eindhovenaren Chelsea FC met 3-1.

PSV begon sterk aan de wedstrijd en was al vroeg gevaarlijk via Liam van Nistelrooij, die net tekortkwam om een voorzet van Beerens binnen te tikken. Aan de andere kant liet Chelsea zich eveneens gelden, maar doelman Kane Aerts hield zijn ploeg meermaals op de been met knappe reddingen op inzetten van Sol Gordon en Lewi Richards.

Halverwege de eerste helft kwam PSV op voorsprong dankzij een schitterende individuele actie van Soudais El Hadj Dani. De aanvaller trok vanaf de flank naar binnen en krulde de bal fraai in de verre hoek: 1-0. Chelsea bleef echter aandringen en zag dat uiteindelijk beloond worden toen Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli de gelijkmaker binnenschoot.

Na rust bleef het duel in balans, totdat PSV opnieuw toesloeg vanuit de omschakeling. Liam van Nistelrooij ontving de bal rond de middenlijn, zette een lange rush in richting het Chelsea-doel en rondde beheerst af met een fraaie lob over de doelman: 2-1.

Met nog tien minuten op de klok ging Chelsea op zoek naar de gelijkmaker, maar PSV sloeg juist opnieuw toe. Slordig balverlies in de Chelsea-defensie werd genadeloos afgestraft door El Hadj Dani, die zijn tweede treffer van de middag maakte en de wedstrijd definitief besliste: 3-1.

Chelsea kreeg via Pennie en Waite nog enkele mogelijkheden om iets terug te doen, maar Kane Aerts en de PSV-defensie hielden stand. Daardoor bereikte PSV overtuigend de finale met Palmeiras als tegenstander, terwijl Chelsea zich moet richten op de wedstrijd om de derde plaats tegen AS Monaco.

PSV have booked their place in the final of the Otten Innovation Cup 2026 after a convincing 3-1 victory over Chelsea FC in the semi-final.

The hosts made a bright start and almost took an early lead when Liam van Nistelrooij arrived just too late to convert a dangerous cross from Beerens. Chelsea responded immediately, but goalkeeper Kane Aerts kept PSV level with an excellent save to deny Sol Gordon.

PSV eventually broke the deadlock thanks to a moment of individual brilliance from Soudais El Hadj Dani. Cutting inside from the flank, the winger shifted the ball onto his left foot and curled a stunning effort into the far corner to make it 1-0.

Chelsea continued to threaten and created several good opportunities through Sol Gordon and Lewi Richards. Their pressure was eventually rewarded when Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli found the back of the net to bring the London side level at 1-1.

The game remained evenly balanced until PSV struck on the counter-attack. Liam van Nistelrooij collected the ball near the halfway line, surged towards goal and calmly lifted the ball over the advancing Chelsea goalkeeper to restore the home side’s lead.

With ten minutes remaining, Chelsea pushed forward in search of another equaliser. Instead, PSV dealt the decisive blow. A defensive error from Chelsea was punished immediately by Soudais El Hadj Dani, who reacted quickest and finished clinically to score his second goal of the afternoon and make it 3-1.

Chelsea continued to battle until the final whistle. Pennie came close after breaking through on the left wing, while Waite also created a shooting opportunity, but PSV stood firm. Kane Aerts produced another crucial intervention to preserve the two-goal advantage.

As a result, PSV secured a deserved 3-1 victory and a place in tomorrow’s final against Palmeiras, while Chelsea FC will compete in the third-place play-off against AS Monaco.
